Question: “Hi Dawn, aside from appearance, what are some other benefits of using bark and mulch in my landscaping?

Dawn’s Answer: “Hi Tom, and thanks for asking a great question!
Using bark or mulch is a good gardening habit but not mandatory; the benefits, however, make it worth the effort. A really good job of mulching your garden usually offers these benefits:
- Inhibits weed germination and growth. (Weeds are not only unsightly, but they also steal resources from desirable garden plants!)
- Holds in soil moisture, protecting your plants from drying out quickly.
- Helps control soil-temperature fluctuations. (This benefit is especially valuable during that turbulent-weather period in spring and summer when you don’t want your plants to be stressed.)
- In hot-summer areas, such as ours, it helps keep plant roots cooler.
- Depending on what you use, adds a bit of welcome nutrition to your garden as it breaks down.

Concrete Overlays, Chemical Staining & Concrete Countertops
Concrete Overlayments –
This is a thin layer of polymer modified cement based material that is applied directly to your existing concrete. This material can be hand troweled smooth, broomed or done in many other light textured finishes. The material can also be stamped to give you a natural stone finish or the effect of tile, bricks, slate, flagstone and more. Once the desired texture is achieved, the material is chemically stained to add color and then sealed to lock in lasting beauty. This process is a cost effective way to improve your concrete without the hassle of tearing out and repouring it.
Chemical Staining –If your concrete is in good shape, fairly uniform in color and just needs a little something extra to make it look sensational, staining is a good option. Stains are applied directly to your concrete and are translucent in appearance; they can be single or multicolored. Once stained a clear sealer is applied to keep the colors vibrate.

Young Life thinks the world of kids. We believe that they deserve to know what life can hold for them. We have a huge assortment of wonderful herbs and vegetables, including organic tomatoes. Get them while they last. We also carry planting mix and potting soil.
Spring Basket Sale! This weekend we are offering all our Spring Baskets at a 20% discount. These baskets are available in 12″, 14″, and 16″ sizes. They can be hung or set stationery. You can select the plants of your choice and we’ll help you build a basket here at our nursery or purchase one of our custom, pre-made baskets.
Our baskets are unique because they are mostly filled with perennials which provide vibrant, year-round color. Over time, the plants in your basket will begin to outgrow their space. They can then be replanted in your yard and will beautify your yard for year’s to come. In addition, you can reuse the basket by refilling with more flowering plants.
